When hardware or software fails to produce genuine randomness, the resulting seed phrases become statistically predictable, and attackers can generate and test likely combinations without ever breaching the physical device.
Offline wallets, or 'cold storage,' are traditionally considered the safest way to hold cryptocurrency precisely because they isolate assets from online threats. That protection, however, rests entirely on the assumption that the seed phrase at the wallet's core is genuinely unguessable. If the random number generator responsible for creating it is flawed or not working, the supposed randomness is lost—and the phrase is far from secret.
The result is a familiar irony in crypto security: devices marketed as the most secure option can be the most exposed when the entropy feeding them fails.
